Buff-rumped Woodpecker

another LIFER for me.
I decided to venture alone further up the hill at Bukit Tinggi, after shooting the Mugimaki with the bazookas group. I met a young man there – Zaidi from Kelantan. He has been a gardener there for 8 years. Very friendly guy who show me this bird.
This beautiful woodpecker is pecking a hole at a termite nest, very high on dead tree.

  1. He looks alot like our Common Flicker, a medium sized woodpecker with the same red face marking. The question is, does it have a buff rump????? Ad as far as the bazookas, as you know, it\’s not the lens, it\’s the phototgrapher. Those of us with shorter lenses are forced to work harder to get closer. We have to be good.

  2. Yes, medium size about 17-19cm.The male species sport the red moustache.I don\’t know, ornithologist name it like that.It should be \”pale brown + chequered black rump\”Other common name are:-Fulvous-rumped Barred Woodpecker, Fulvous-rumped Woodpecker. The one behind the camera is that matter. Now the price of lenses here increased 10-20% due to strong Japanese yen compare to Ringgit Malaysia, so that bazooka will be on hold indefinitely.
